18/10/2013: SMOBER- Anti-Tobacco Rally at Bandra (West)

IES College of Architecture coordinates rally to create awareness against smoking and tobacco consumption.

Rally kicks off effort to axe the habit of tobacco.

Bandra, Mumbai - Students rallied today as part of an effort to urge the public to raise their voice against consumption of tobacco and smoking. The rally ‘SMOBER’ was in response to the increasing addiction of tobacco especially amongst the youth.

SMOBER was peacefully spreading awareness by enthusiast students of IES College of Architecture in collaboration with the NGO ‘Voice Against Tobacco’ on account of their festival AVARTAN’13. The rally started off by the motivational speech by Mr.Umesh

Thanawala, Chairman & Managing Trustee of ‘Voice Against Tobacco’ . Mr. Thanawala emphasised on the art of saying No to Tobacco from day one followed by Ms.Pratibha Prabhu, principal of IES Manik Vidyalaya,

Ar.Gaurish Chandawarkar, principal of IES College of Architecture along with its faculty also encouraged this initiative. The rally began from the college itself and the students dressed in white marched through St.Sebastian Road and reached Bandra station road via Hill Road. The rally finally terminated at the college.

The students were successful in meeting the aim of this rally by making approximately 500 people pledge to refrain from consuming tobacco and henceforth support this cause. People were encouraged to fill a pledge statement to support the above cause.
